Sunday Notes – 29/3/15

Having lost an hour today moving forward to British Summer Time, all is not lost — because here is a breakdown of a ton of new music for you to check out.

First up are the magnificent power pop trio Personal Best, who return with Arnos Vale. Looking ahead to May and June, the Bristol band are going to be doing a string of shows with US counterparts Lemuria and the rad-as-ever Dads. I can’t wait to hear these songs performed live.

Locally; I’ve been really digging this new track from Groves; complete with weird-as-fuck music videoFrack The Shit Out Of It combines angular guitar with frantic bass, it’s pretty relentless. Catch them at the Sounds From The Other City in Salford (who just announced a stellar line up this week) or at this i hate my records gig on Wednesday if you can’t wait.

Elsewhere; demcats, hailing from Leamington Spa, only have practice room demos online, and just double figures in likes on Facebook, but they are still very promising. The three piece produce extended instrumentals that are both technically impressive, and varied enough to keep interest. They take to the road with Canterbury indie emo math superstars College in May.

For something a bit more noisy, and heading up to Glasgow, you got Damn Teeth. I like the sense of urgency in this – Again, no pro-recording for the time being, so here’s a youtube vid from a gig at Bar Bloc; who produce sarcastic promotional material at the same time as serving up pizza.

… And finally I’d suggest listening to Humousexual (I’m all over the best band names) – they play the Power Lunches festival Bent Fest next weekend. Here is something from a Tuff Enuff comp from last year. That brings us to a close in the round up for all things DIY this week. Check back again next week – same time, same place.
