Looking back at 2014 with… Holy Pinto

We spoke to Holy Pinto about their year and also recorded a session video which can be viewed at the bottom of this page!

How was 2014 for you?

Busy! As a band we recorded so, so many songs and dipped our feet into serious touring. 2015 is gonna be huge for us and we can’t wait to get all the material we recorded out there, starting with an EP early in the year! On a personal level, pretty decent I’d have to say! Next year will be sick though.

What was the best/most memorable show you played?

Aymen: House shows always. In July we played one with Better Weather, College and Healing Powers and had a blast. Shout out to the Stewarts for putting it on!

Ryan: House shows are always great, we also played an awesome mini festival in wales called Stencilfest. Big shout out to the guys over at Stencil Magazine for putting that one on!

What was the best show you went to?

Aymen: Saw John K Samson in Manchester last week and it was unbelievable.

Ryan: Loved seeing The Flatliners at the Reading Festival in the lock up tent. Such a great vibe.

What are some of your favourite releases this year?

Aymen: For me this year was more about discovering old artists – Fireworks’ Oh Common Life was a fantastic new release though – they couldn’t be more underrated as a band. College rule and I love the tracks off their split. I’d have to be a Grinch and say I was generally a bit disappointed with the selection this year though – hoping I’ll be proved wrong and unearth some gems from peoples’ end of year lists though!

Ryan: I’m slightly more optimistic about the music of 2014 than the other half of Holy Pinto! For me, The Albatross by Foxing was a phenomenal release, and Joyce Manor’s Never Hungover Again is a good bit of fun. I’m a big Manchester Orchestra fan, so the Cope/Hope combo was awesome in my books.

Aymen: I think Ryan forgot to mention The Hotelier – I think he’s pretty damn big on that release! I’ve had to listen to a lot of spiel from him about how incredible Housebroken is, and I would hate for his feelings on it to reach the public domain!

What releases are you excited for in 2015?

Aymen: I’m hoping for something new from Jens Lekman – and fingers crossed for the new Motion City Soundtrack album being as great as their last one. I hope to be pleasantly surprised across the board – we need some bangers in the van for our tours next year!

Ryan: Super keen for what Brand New have in store, who knows when it will be out, but I’ve been waiting for the next chapter after Daisy for way too long. Is it wrong to say I’m excited for our first physical release as well!? Haha.

Here’s a session of their song “Matches” – they band are also playing our next show w/ Petrol Girls and Laughing in the Face Of! More info here.
