Preview: 2000 Trees Festival

With 2000 Trees festival looming ever closer, aside from stocking up on sun cream and saving up our money for as many Pieminister’s as feasibly possible, we’ve been indulging our eardrums in some of the bands we’re really excited to hear. If you haven’t got a ticket yet then make sure you do. 2000 Trees is hands down the best weekend of the entire year, and this one promises to be no different. From Alkaline Trio to WOAHNOWS and The Xcerts to The Skints; you can be sure to find something for you. Here are some of our favourites performing right across the weekend.

Who?
WOAHNOWS
When?
Friday, The Axiom
What?
Noisy pop trio WOAHNOWS combine giant guitar riffs with heartfelt lyrical content and a penchant for fun. Hailing from Plymouth, one of the best things about this band are the soaring vocal melodies which are reminiscent of fellow south coast heroes, Gnarwolves. They’re performing first on The Axiom stage on Friday. So if you’re lucky enough to have come by a Thursday ticket then your hangover will become an irrelevance, and if you’re not so lucky then there really is no better way to start your 2000 Trees experience.

Who?
The Lion and the Wolf
When?
15.05 – 15.35
Friday, The Croft
What?
The silky folk tones of DIY favourite, Tom George are not to be missed. He released his debut album, Symptoms, at the end of last year to be met with great reception from the community, and is now ploughing his efforts into relentless touring; specifically with Andrew Paley throughout Germany and up and down the country with PJ Bond. He makes the sort of music that would provide essential listening against the stunning Gloucestershire countryside.

Who?
Milk Teeth
When?
The Axiom, Saturday
What?
Everyone’s favourite dirty pop band, Milk Teeth, have been going from strength to strength recently; following the success of their album Sad Sack and respective tours with great bands like Hindsights and even signing to Hopeless Records. It’s no wonder we’re excited to see them perform their unique combination of sullen and scrappy punk. Their single “Vitamins” is a haven of 90’s grunge and sparks formidable comparison with bands like The Pixies and Sonic Youth. There’s so much energy behind the Milk Teeth machine and this is only a reflection of the hard work and ambition of its members.

Who?
To The Wall
When?
Friday, The Cave
What?
Newly established heavy punk band, To The Wall, are a collection of some of the most promising musicians to hail from Birmingham. They are comprised of members of Blakfish, &U&I and Shapes; bands who have all left a substantial mark on the scene in recent years. You can get your ears around their newest track, “Stockholm,” on YouTube, ahead of the release of their debut album which was recorded in El Paso, Texas with Chris Common (The Mars Volta, Chelsea Wolfe, Minus The Bear). ‘Stockholm’ packs all the punch of your favourite hardcore punx whilst maintaining a tasty bass-driven refrain. Having been lucky enough to catch them supporting Single Mothers at The Rainbow in June, we’re certain that they’re one to watch!
